In today’s technology-reliant world, maintaining private information online can make or break a business. As manufacturing supply chains are increasingly interconnected and companies become more tech-dependent, cybersecurity has evolved into a critical component of companies’ everyday operations.
To help companies protect against data breaches, the S.C. Department of Commerce, in partnership with the S.C. Department of Employment and Workforce and the S.C. Manufacturing Extension Partnership, hosted the inaugural South Carolina Cybersecurity Summit on Wednesday, September 1 in Columbia.
The event focused on ways companies can bolster cybersecurity resiliency and featured speakers, including S.C. Commerce Secretary Harry M. Lightsey III, along with cybersecurity experts from the public and private sectors.
The summit also offered guidance for companies that have current contracts with the Department of Defense (DOD) and those seeking contractor opportunities. To win business with the DOD, companies must adhere to strict cybersecurity standards. The event detailed those requirements and included information on the S.C. Cybersecurity Assistance Program (SC-CAP), which provides funding and assistance for defense contractors to comply with federal requirements.
Acknowledging that reliance on technology will only continue to grow, Team South Carolina is committed to strengthening and expanding the state's cyber technology network.
