More than $1.7 million investment expected to create 30 new jobs
COLUMBIA, S.C. – Mediterranean Shipping Company, a leader in the container shipping industry, today announced plans to expand operations at its Charleston County facility. The company will invest more than $1.7 million and is expected to create 30 additional new jobs.
“We look forward to expanding our footprint in the Charleston area and building on our previous success. We appreciate the support we’ve received from state and local officials as we’ve grown throughout the years in the Lowcountry,” said Sergio Fedelini, vice president of Mediterranean Shipping Company.
Mediterranean Shipping Company will be adding equipment to its existing Charleston facility, located at 700 Watermark Boulevard in Mt. Pleasant, in order to create a new data recovery center for the company. Additionally, the company has purchased an adjacent property and will use that space for “MSC University,” a training center for the company’s employees and managers.

This announcement not only reflects well on our business-friendly climate, but also on the Port of Charleston – a key selling point for many companies locating here,” said Gov. Nikki Haley.
Since January 2011, South Carolina has recruited more than $420 million in capital investment and more than 2,800 jobs in the distribution and logistics sector.
“Mediterranean Shipping Company has been operating in Charleston for more than 20 years, and today’s announcement shows the company’s continued commitment to the Palmetto State. Our distribution and logistics sector continues to create good jobs, and each of these jobs will have an impact in Charleston,” said Secretary of Commerce Bobby Hitt.
“MSC is an industry leader, a very important customer of the Port of Charleston, and their economic impact on our community is profound,” said Charleston County Council Chairman Teddie Pryor. “The addition of new capabilities here at their South Atlantic headquarters signals yet another vote of confidence by MSC in the Port, the local workforce and the sound fundamentals of the Charleston region’s business climate.”
