Investment expected to create 30 new jobs
COLUMBIA, S.C. – BorgWarner, a global automotive powertrain supplier, today announced plans to expand its current facility in Oconee County, which will generate 30 new jobs.
“We are pleased to move forward with our expansion plans in Oconee County. Demand for our products has increased and South Carolina has provided us with an excellent business environment, so this expansion is the right step for our company. We appreciate all the support we’ve received from state and local officials,” said Andy J. Mickus, general manager of BorgWarner TorqTransfer Systems North America.
BorgWarner will expand its drivetrain manufacturing facility located at 15545 Wells Highway in Seneca. The expansion will allow the company to add capacity for its transfer case products.
“It’s a great day in South Carolina when one of our existing businesses chooses to expand its operations in our state. We celebrate BorgWarner’s decision to invest in South Carolina, creating up to 30 new jobs in Seneca. Today’s announcement is also another win for one of our state’s rural areas,” said Gov. Nikki Haley.
Since January 2011, South Carolina has recruited more than $4.4 billion in capital investment and more than 6,800 jobs in the automotive-related sector.
“Today’s announcement by BorgWarner shows that South Carolina’s reputation in the automotive club continues to grow. Our state’s business-friendly climate and skilled workforce continue to help our existing companies prosper and create new jobs,” said Secretary of Commerce Bobby Hitt.
“The expansion of BorgWarner gives us confidence that Oconee County remains a ripe environment for business to flourish,” said Oconee County Council Chairman Joel Thrift. “We applaud BorgWarner’s success and are thankful for the job creation and capital investment that our community will receive.”
