Pharmaceutical Associates Inc. Announces Expansion in Greenville County

Investment expected to create 15 new jobs

COLUMBIA, S.C. – March 29, 2011 – The Greenville Area Development Corporation and the South Carolina Department of Commerce today announced that Pharmaceutical Associates Inc. (PAI) will expand its Greenville County operations.  The $8.5 million investment is expected to generate 15 new jobs.

“We are pleased to continue to grow our operations in Greenville County, and this investment will allow us to meet growing demand from our customers across the U.S.,” said Clete Harmon, senior vice president of regulatory and business affairs for PAI.  “Our team’s quality, leadership, dedication and integrity have paved the way for more than 30 successful years as we’ve grown here, and our state-of-the-art manufacturing and distribution facility has been a cornerstone of PAI’s success.”

“This expansion of both facilities and team will allow us to continue to strategically advance our business.  Greenville County and South Carolina have always provided PAI with an excellent business environment and a highly-skilled workforce. We appreciate the support we have received from state and local officials who helped make this expansion a reality,” Harmon added.

Founded in 1968, Pharmaceutical Associates Inc. has earned a solid reputation as a time-proven manufacturer of liquid pharmaceuticals. Through the years, the company has formulated, manufactured and packaged thousands of products including contract-manufactured liquid specialties, private label formulations and a proprietary line of generic pharmaceutical liquids packaged in out-patient and unit-dose sizes.

“Pharmaceutical Associates has been a part of the state’s business community for a number of years and we appreciate the company’s decision to continue doing business in South Carolina. This announcement shows yet again that our state’s positive business environment fosters growth for our existing businesses and helps create new job opportunities,” said Bobby Hitt, Secretary of Commerce.

The pharmaceutical company in Columbia, SC will expand its existing facilities, which currently comprises 340,000 square feet, by an additional 40,000 square feet to accommodate growth and to optimize operations and workflow. Renovations to the facility, located within the South Carolina Technology and Aviation Center (SC-TAC), are expected to be completed by the end of the first quarter of 2012.

“Pharmaceutical Associates is a leader in the liquid pharmaceuticals arena, and we are pleased that they have decided to place this investment and create these new positions here in Greenville County,” said H.G. “Butch” Kirven, director of the Greenville Area Development Corporation Board and chairman of Greenville County Council. “As a national manufacturer with innovative processes, blue-chip customers and a history of success, the company is a valued member of our business community, and a reaffirmation that specialty manufacturing companies can thrive and succeed in South Carolina.”

“The PAI announcement is particularly gratifying because they exemplify the type of high-tech companies located at SCTAC,” said Jody Bryson, president and CEO of S.C. Technology & Aviation Center. “The planned expansion of PAI, one of three pharmaceutical operations located within the center, validates the tremendous business climate we have to support technology and aviation companies.”
