Foreign-based firms have accounted for more than half of all new capital investment announced in the Palmetto State since 2011. Recognizing that, the State of South Carolina understands the importance of strong relationships with our international partners. That's why Team South Carolina is in Canada this week, leading a delegation of businesses and allies on a trade and investment mission. With stops in Toronto and Montreal, the trip will allow us to build on the mutually-beneficial economic partnership we have with our neighbors to the north.
Representing more than $3.4 billion of South Carolina's export sales total in 2016, Canada is one of our top trade partners year in and year out. Additionally, Canada-based companies have created more than 4,000 new jobs in our state since 2011. So, this week, as our delegation meets with Canadian industry leaders, government representatives and other allies, we'll be laying the groundwork for continued shared prosperity between our state and Canada.
