From the Lowcountry to the Upstate and everywhere in-between, nothing has a larger impact on Team South Carolina than the current and former service men and women who call our state home. With Veterans Day taking place on Monday, we honor and thank those who are serving and have served our country.
In addition to defending freedom at home and abroad, the military has a tremendous economic footprint in South Carolina. With eight major installations and several other facilities throughout the state, South Carolina’s military sector employs more than 62,000 personnel and is responsible for approximately $2.6 billion in payroll. In fact, an economic impact study recently commissioned by the S.C. Military Base Task Force found that the military has a $24.1 billion economic impact on the state, annually. So, on Monday, I encourage you to take some time and honor the veterans of South Carolina who have made our state and nation a better place to live, work and play.
