The global spotlight is shining brightly on the Palmetto State, as several of our state’s signature events are back in full swing – marking a sense of return to normalcy from the COVID-19 pandemic.
Eyes around the world will be fixed on South Carolina next week when the PGA Championship – one of the most prestigious events of the tour – tees off on Kiawah Island. Featuring the biggest names in golf, the tournament is expected to draw thousands of spectators each day.
The PGA Championship joins the list of significant tournaments hosted within our borders this year, including last month’s RBC Heritage on Hilton Head Island, the Volvo Car Open tennis tournament on Daniel Island and next month’s Palmetto Championship at Congaree in Ridgeland.
With a truly international reach, these events are more than just a boon for the state's tourism sector. They also attract business leaders, representing both existing and prospective industry partners.
So, if you’ve already taken in some golf or tennis, or plan to in the coming weeks, it’s important to recognize these events not only showcase our beautiful state and Southern hospitality, they help sell South Carolina to the world – which helps lead the way to continued economic growth and prosperity for years to come.
