With more than 1,200 locations of foreign-based firms operating within our borders, Team South Carolina understands the importance of global connectivity and strong partnerships with economic allies around the world. After all, the Palmetto State boasts one of the nation's largest percentages of workers employed by international companies. In total, more than 130,000 South Carolinians are currently employed by a foreign-based business.
To ensure continued international success and economic prosperity in South Carolina, S.C. Commerce prioritizes strengthening relationships with global partners. That's why our agency maintains a presence in five foreign countries; and, it's also a major driver behind the state's all-important trade and investment missions.
This week, illustrating the strength of Team South Carolina's relationships with foreign allies, many consuls general and other international guests visited South Carolina to participate in the state's 97th inaugural celebration. More than 20 countries were represented at the inaugural luncheon, showing just how strong our global reputation has become.
Moving forward, as we seek to further enhance our role in the international marketplace, relationships with foreign industry and government leaders will remain critical. By working together to strengthen these partnerships, I know that we'll be able to cultivate economic success within our borders and beyond.
