With a talented and innovative workforce, top research institutions and world-class hospitality systems, the life sciences sector is a key driver of economic success in South Carolina, with a more than $11 billion annual impact each year.
To further this dynamic sector, SCBIO hosted a record 450-plus industry executives, leaders in government and higher education, legislators, biotechnology and pharma executives this week at the 2019 Annual Conference in Greenville. The three-day event provided an opportunity for industry stakeholders to gather and examine ways to continue strengthening life sciences across South Carolina. In all, more than 30 states and 11 countries were represented at the Conference.
This year’s conference, themed “Ignite the Future,” featured intensive networking, innovation updates and strategic discussions. Speakers included Johnson & Johnson Innovation Leader Michal Preminger, Lt. Governor Pamela Evette, representatives from Nephron Pharmaceuticals, research universities and more.
The conference also inducted former University of South Carolina President Harris Pastides into the S.C. Life Sciences Hall of Fame for his positive impact and exceptional contributions to the advancement of the sector. Also honored with Pinnacle Awards were Dr. Jerry Youkey of Prisma Health for his Lifetime Contributions to South Carolina Life Sciences, and AVX for the Organization of the Year for its sustained support and advancement of Life Sciences.
