South Carolina’s longtime relationship with Japan was on full display at the 44th annual Southeast United States (SEUS)-Japan Association in Florida last month. The prestigious meeting of global business leaders celebrates the longstanding economic and cultural ties between the Southeast U.S. and Japan, and it offers opportunities to maximize international connections.
Secretary Harry M. Lightsey III, who met with consuls general, delegation heads, delegates, lawmakers and special guests, had the opportunity to highlight South Carolina’s special relationship with Japan and the benefits of doing business together. South Carolina has maintained a state commerce presence in Tokyo since 1983. Additionally, since 2011, Japanese-owned firms have invested more than $3.4 billion in South Carolina.
