American author and businessman Stephen Richards Covey once said, "strength lies in differences." Illustrating the durability and vitality that comes with diversity, Covey's statement is certainly relevant for Team South Carolina. As we try to ensure a prosperous future for our state, our ability to cultivate a multifaceted economy is critical.
Recognizing this, our industry recruitment efforts certainly prioritize diversity. Whether it be by project location, industry type, company origin or some other factor, we aim to be a well-rounded state, home to thriving businesses of all shapes and sizes. Already this year, we've announced 38 projects in 19 counties. With companies from six countries, these projects represent an array of industries, including agribusiness, distribution and logistics, energy, manufacturing, office and shared services and technology.
Without question, this economic diversity is having a positive impact on South Carolina; just take a look at what's been happening this week. As our tourism industry is in full swing with the RBC Heritage on Hilton Head Island, Freightliner delivered another huge win for our manufacturing sector by breaking ground on a new $22.7 million facility in Cherokee County. And, earlier in the week, while the Port and our entire distribution and logistics industry celebrated a record month for container volume, our technology sector was also recognized, as the Computing Technology Industry Association ranked it 11th fastest-growing in the nation, by employment.
For Team South Carolina, it seems that Covey's statement is more than just relevant; it's our economic identity. After all, the variety of major industries having success within our borders has truly made our state and economy stronger. Moving forward, as we continue to diversify, I'm excited to watch the Palmetto State soar to even greater heights.
