Team South Carolina's primary goal is to provide the businesses in our state with the resources they need to remain competitive. From workforce recruitment and training to export assistance and business consultation, we utilize many significant initiatives to help us achieve this. One of the most important things we can do, however -- and a practice that is sometimes forgotten in today's fast-paced society -- is stop and listen. By pausing to communicate with our existing industries, we can learn the issues and concerns they have and, as a result, can better equip them with the tools they need to succeed.
Recognizing this, the S.C. Coordinating Council for Workforce Development recently commissioned a workforce-focused survey of the state's manufacturers. Unveiled at Thursday's council meeting, the results of the survey will help us better understand the labor needs of the businesses operating in this state; and, in turn, we'll be able to more effectively train South Carolinians for the jobs of the future.
