May is World Trade Month – an opportunity to recognize the impact exporting has on the United States economy and overall business growth. Here in South Carolina, global trade is an integral part of our state’s identity.
Even on the heels of one of the most challenging years in history, South Carolina maintained our best-in-the-nation rankings in the export sales of tires and completed passenger vehicles in 2020. And, new last year, our state clinched the No. 1 spot in export sales of ball and roller bearings. Export sales topped $30.3 billion in 2020, with S.C. companies selling products in 195 countries and territories.
South Carolina continues to live up to our reputation for producing top-quality goods and our ability to export those products worldwide. And, with more than 95% of the world’s consumers living outside the U.S., many of the existing business opportunities are in foreign markets.
That’s why Team S.C. prioritizes the growth of our trade footprint and works with companies of all sizes to expand their reach into new markets overseas. We do this through a multi-faceted approach. Our presence in six foreign countries allows us to build relationships and make connections beneficial to companies within our borders: we facilitate grant programs to help both new and experienced S.C. exporters grow their global sales; we offer customized export counseling; we create opportunities for companies to meet face-to-face with prospective international clients through trade missions and B2B events; and much more.
Whether identifying potential markets for export goods or understanding shipping regulations, Team S.C. offers a wealth of trade expertise for companies.
As we recognize World Trade Month, know that Team S.C. is here for companies every step of the way as they work to tap into international demand. And by doing that, we help ensure the Palmetto State remains a globally competitive place to do business.
