Baldor Electric Company expanding Anderson County manufacturing facility

$15 million investment expected to create 45 new jobs

COLUMBIA, S.C.  - Baldor Electric Company, a leading manufacturer of energy-efficient industrial electric motors and mechanical power transmission products, is expanding its Anderson County facility with a $15 million investment that is expected to generate another 45 jobs for the area over the next five years. Company officials made the announcement today in Belton.

"We are proud to partner with Anderson County, the South Carolina Department of Commerce and the city of Belton on this expansion," said Tom Mascari, executive vice president mechanical for Baldor. "Our customers expect us to provide them with more value than anyone else in our industry, and the employees we have in Belton do that each and every day. We believe this investment in our facility and our employees will allow us to continue taking care of customers all around the world from Belton, South Carolina."

Baldor, a member of the ABB group, is the largest industrial electric motor and mechanical power transmission company in North America. The company's Anderson County facility in Belton produces energy-saving gear reducers used in various kinds of industrial equipment.

"Existing industry like Baldor continue to choose to increase their footprint in South Carolina, and that shows the strength of our business-friendly climate and strong workforce," said Gov. Nikki Haley. "We celebrate Baldor Electric Company's decision to invest $15 million and create 45 jobs in Anderson County."

Since January 2011, South Carolina has recruited more than $12.4 billion in capital investment and 31,000 jobs in the manufacturing sector.

"Manufacturing has long been one of our state's strengths, earning us the moniker 'beast of the Southeast'," said Secretary of Commerce Bobby Hitt. "Expansions like this one help keep South Carolina leading the East Coast in manufacturing GDP."

"It shows there is good cooperation between Anderson County and our existing industries to have this announcement of 45 jobs with an average wage higher than our county average from an industry with such a long history in our county," said Anderson County Councilman Eddie Moore.
