Giti Tire plant construction subcontractor outreach event scheduled

Company moving forward with $560 million manufacturing facility

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The South Carolina Department of Commerce, along with Chester County Economic Development, will be hosting a construction subcontractor outreach event for the Chester County Giti Tire plant construction project on Wednesday, July 29, 2015 from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. in Richburg, S.C.

Announced in June 2014, Giti Tire’s Chester County manufacturing operations are expected to create 1,700 new jobs over the next decade. To house these new jobs, the company is constructing a $560 million plant, a construction project that will be managed by Shimizu North America LLC, a leading general contracting firm that serves a broad range of clients worldwide. Both companies will have officials present at the July 29 event.

Secretary of Commerce Bobby Hitt celebrated this milestone moment for Giti’s South Carolina operations saying, “We were excited last year when Giti announced its decision to establish the company’s first North American manufacturing facility in Chester County, and we’re even more excited today as the plans for this plant begin to come to fruition. I look forward to this event and to continuing the Palmetto State’s successful partnership with Giti Tire for many years to come."

Chester County Supervisor Shane Stuart spoke to the importance of this event saying, “We work hard in Chester County to create an environment that supports existing industry expansion, encourages new industry investments, fosters entrepreneurialism and welcomes visitation by others—all of which support the provision of public services and otherwise improves each citizen’s prosperity and overall quality of life. Jointly hosting the Construction Subcontractor Vendor Outreach Event with S.C. Department of Commerce is a real opportunity for our local construction subcontractors to have an opportunity to get in front of both GITI and Shimizu with their skills and abilities.”

Taking place at the Gateway Conference Center at 3202 Commerce Drive in Richburg, the event will provide attendees with information about the upcoming construction project and its schedule, details regarding current and upcoming bid packages, as well as contractor pre-qualification forms. The project’s construction management team will also be on hand to answer questions.

Brian Singleton, chairman of the Chester County Development Association, echoed Secretary Hitt and Supervisor Stuart’s support for this event saying, “As the private partner in the ongoing business of economic development in Chester County, we want our local construction and subcontractor professionals to have every opportunity to present their skills to both GITI Tire and Shimizu.”
