Carbon fiber manufacturing facility to bring $600 million investment and create 220 jobs

COLUMBIA, S.C. Teijin Ltd., a Japanese chemical, pharmaceutical and information technology company, will be constructing a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Greenwood County. Creating 220 new jobs, the project is expected to bring $600 million in new capital investment to Greenwood County – the largest initial capital investment by a company in the county’s history.

Founded in 1918, Teijin is a technology-driven global group offering advanced solutions in the areas of sustainable transportation; information and electronics; safety and protection; environment and energy; and healthcare. The company’s main fields of operation include high-performance fibers, such as aramid, carbon fibers and composites, resin processing, polyester fibers and more. The group has approximately 150 companies and 16,000 employees in 20 countries worldwide.

Located along S.C. Highway 246 in Greenwood, S.C., the company will be constructing a carbon fiber manufacturing facility to supply the automotive, aerospace and industrial markets. With a very high strength-to-weight ratio, carbon fiber is an environmentally-friendly solution for the advanced manufacturing industry.
