Accounting for more than $3.7 billion of South Carolina's export sales total in 2017, Canada is one of the state's top trade partners year in and year out. This week, Team South Carolina had a great opportunity to strengthen that partnership as Canadian Consul General Nadia Theodore visited Columbia, S.C. to meet with Gov. Henry McMaster and members of S.C. Commerce's International Strategy and Trade division. The group was able to discuss the importance of Canada-South Carolina trade, as well as the future of this mutually-beneficial economic relationship.
In the coming months, S.C. Commerce will take additional steps to further enhance these ties. In May, the agency is leading a trade and investment mission to Canada. Including stops in Toronto and Montreal, the five-day trip will provide South Carolina companies with the opportunity to have one-on-one meetings with prospective distributors, agents and partners. And, in June, the agency will be well-represented at the 11th Annual Joint Meeting of the Southeastern United States – Canadian Provinces Alliance.
