Message from Secretary Hitt: Driving automotive in S.C.

South Carolina knows what drives automotive success. With an economic impact of $27
billion, the sector employs more than 72,000 South Carolinians.  Bobby

Just a few short decades ago, that was not the case. But, in 1992 when BMW announced its first North American manufacturing operations in South Carolina, the Palmetto State began a transformation that would be a true game changer. In the years that followed, our state earned a global reputation as an automotive powerhouse. Today, giants like Volvo Cars, Mercedes-Benz Vans, Bridgestone, Michelin, Continental Tire and around 500 other automotive-related companies call South Carolina home.

This wasn't luck. It took a true team effort to earn the success we have.

To build on that growth, Team South Carolina will join the top minds in the industry next month in Greenville at the 9th annual S.C. Automotive Summit. Taking place February 26-28, the event is an opportunity to discuss business trends, share best practices and connect with automotive industry stakeholders.

Recognizing a diverse economy is key to sustained growth, automotive is a pivotal player in South Carolina's multi-faceted manufacturing wheelhouse. With our impressive roster of automotive companies, it's clear that South Carolina is not just part of the global automotive industry; we're a leader. And, with our team-first, collaborative approach, we intend to remain on top.
