Message from Secretary Hitt: Innovation fueling economic growth

"Innovation is the central issue in economic prosperity." Those words by American economics academic Michael Porter resonate today, as Team South Carolina recognizes the impact innovation and entrepreneurship have on the future of economic development.

With our leading research universities, business-friendly environment and unmatched quality of life, South Carolina is primed not only for global business growth, but also for transformation in the local knowledge economy.

To help fuel ingenuity within our borders, the S.C. Commerce Office of Innovation's upcoming Toolkit Talk series will celebrate some of the Palmetto State's most accomplished and creative minds. The interactive three-day series, which is part of the Scribble online resource, provides opportunities for idea sharing and collaboration between innovators of all industry sectors and experience levels.

Through Scribble, Team South Carolina is fostering an overall spirit of collaboration that's already taking place in our state. (See video below.) From research labs to tech transfer offices to startup garages, South Carolina's innovation leaders are crossing industry and sector lines to launch transformative ideas and products.

This continued teamwork and push for an innovative approach to business will not only improve productivity across industry, but will be a driver of long-term economic growth and stability.
