Message from Secretary Hitt: Making Advanced Materials in South Carolina

From premium automobiles and wide-body commercial aircraft to medical devices and luxury boats, we produce complex things in South Carolina. To make these complex products, our manufacturers need the latest, most advanced materials. As a result, a burgeoning advanced materials sector has developed across our state. In fact, since 2011, advanced materials firms have announced $4 billion in capital investment and the creation of 8,000 new jobs in South Carolina.

Last week, to build on this momentum, S.C. Commerce hosted a delegation at the JEC World composites show in Paris. The event allowed Team South Carolina to build relationships with business leaders from across the globe and learn about the latest developments within the industry. Moving forward, as we continue to work together to remain on the cutting edge of the advanced materials sector, we'll be able to further strengthen our role as a leading provider of plastics, optics, composites and more to the world's manufacturers.
