Walt Disney once said, "Do what you do so well that they want to see it again and bring their friends." For Team South Carolina, this strategy seems to be one that we've perfected. Throughout this month, the Palmetto State is enjoying time in the spotlight, as several prestigious events are taking place within our borders. Attracting thousands of visitors, these events provide us with the opportunity to showcase South Carolina's unmatched hospitality and welcoming spirit.
Last week, the 2018 Volvo Car Open took place on Daniel Island. In its 46th year, the trailblazing women's tennis tournament drew a total attendance of more than 88,000. And, this week, the 50th annual RBC Heritage golf tournament is being held on Hilton Head Island. With an annual economic impact of approximately $96 million, the Professional Golf Association Tour event draws around 130,000 attendees each year and is broadcast in 23 languages to 226 countries around the world.
With such a global reach, these tournaments are more than just a boon for the state's tourism sector. They also attract business leaders, representing both existing and prospective industries contemplating investments in South Carolina. Recognizing this, S.C. Commerce and its various allies are partnering to welcome these visitors and show them the collaborative business environment that exists across the state.
Whether it be in the boardroom or on the golf course, South Carolina has proven time and time again that it is an ideal destination for businesses and tourists alike. As we work together to promote all that this state has to offer during these events and beyond, we'll be able to cultivate and strengthen relationships that will lead to continued economic growth and prosperity for years to come.
