With an estimated annual impact of $27 billion, the automotive industry is a major economic driver in the Palmetto State. To build on that growth and continue the advancement of the sector, the South Carolina Automotive Summit – which wraps up today – brings together top minds in the industry each year. This year’s summit, held virtually, provided an opportunity for leaders in the industry to discuss the latest business trends, share best practices and connect with automotive industry stakeholders.
Of significant interest at this year’s summit, industry experts discussed the increased focus on sustainability and the transition from gas-powered engines to electric vehicles. Auto manufacturers in S.C., including Mercedes-Benz Vans, Volvo, BMW, Proterra and recently announced Arrival, are all making commitments to build the next generation of vehicles in the Palmetto State.
During the 2021 summit, Arrival Automotive North America CEO Mike Ableson and Volvo Americas Plant Manager David Stenstrom both served as original equipment manufacturer (OEM) keynote speakers.
Additionally, during the three-day event, S.C. Commerce hosted the 7th annual B2B Matchmaker, which brought together more than 170 registered attendees from across the state to meet with OEM and Tier 1 companies. Over 85 successful virtual B2B meetings were executed this year, allowing S.C. companies to establish relationships or network with fellow industry stakeholders.
