In South Carolina, a wide range of opportunities exists to support the many companies, both large and small, that drive our economy. There are even initiatives to assist micro-businesses, which are firms with five employees or fewer. The success of these enterprises is essential as they create jobs, enhance income and strengthen purchasing power.
One resource that supports these smaller firms is the S.C. Micro Enterprise Developers Conference, which will be held in Columbia, S.C. on June 21 and 22. Hosted by a variety of partners, including the S.C. Department of Commerce, the event is designed for organizations that provide training, technical assistance, loans and other services directly to entrepreneurs and allows attendees to learn best practices and make new contacts.
A highlight of this year’s conference will undoubtedly be the S.C. Micro Pitch Competition, which gives aspiring and current business owners the unique opportunity to win up to $3,000 in cash for their small business. This exciting event will consist of finalists pitching their idea with a five-minute presentation to a live panel of business experts. Last year, S.C. Commerce’s own Senior Program Director for Small Business Ashley Teasdel participated as a judge.
