The South Carolina Department of Commerce promotes economic opportunity for individuals and businesses. From assisting with the location of new sites and buildings, offering grants for community development and infrastructure improvement, to providing workforce training, the Department of Commerce is here to help new and existing businesses grow.

As a national leader in direct foreign investment, the state extends its global reach with offices in Europe and Asia that help existing companies in developing export markets.

The Department of Commerce also maintains the S.C. Public Railways and the S.C. Coordinating Council for Economic Development.

In order to promote accountability and transparency, each state agency must provide and release to the public via the agency's website, a report of all aggregate amounts of fines and fees that were charged and collected by that state agency in the prior fiscal year.
