USPS makes $2.98 billion order with Oshkosh Defense, Spartanburg for first 50k of new fleet

The U.S. Postal Service announced Thursday it has placed its first order of Next Generation Delivery Vehicles with Wisconsin-based Oshkosh Defense, which plans to start production next year in Spartanburg County.

The $2.98 billion order calls for 50,000 postal vehicles, with at least 10,019 being zero-emission battery electric vehicles, according to a USPS press release.

Oshkosh Defense won the contract in February 2021 to produce its Next Generation Delivery Vehicle fleet of up to 165,000 vehicles.

BMW expanding operations in Spartanburg County with new press shop

BMW announced today that the company is expanding its Spartanburg County operations with the construction of a new press shop. The $200 million investment will create 200 new jobs.

The 219,000-square-foot press shop – located on the BMW Plant Spartanburg campus – will take raw coils of steel, cut them into blanks and stamp sheet metal parts for future BMW models. These components include hang-on parts such as the vehicles’ four doors, fenders, exterior body sides and lift gate.
