Workshop to Pair Lenders with Small Business Owners

COLUMBIA, S.C. – August 22, 2011 – The South Carolina Department of Commerce, the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond and a number of state economic development partners will host a day-long workshop this month to help small business owners with strategies on financing their businesses and meet lenders. Area Development Magazine Awards South Carolina the 2011 Gold Shovel and Project of the Year

COLUMBIA, S.C. – April 25, 2011 – Area Development magazine, a national, leading economic development publication, has awarded South Carolina with its 2011 Gold Shovel award for the state’s economic development efforts last year. Grants awarded to improve 14 South Carolina communities

COLUMBIA, S.C. – Fourteen communities from across South Carolina are slated to benefit from public improvement projects supported by nearly $8.9 million in funds from the latest round of the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program. Department of Commerce honors 2016 Ambassadors for Economic Development

COLUMBIA, S.C. – As part of the 25th Annual Industry Appreciation Week, the South Carolina Department of Commerce last week announced the 2016 Ambassadors for Economic Development. Recognized for their exceptional efforts to bolster community and economic development activities in South Carolina, the ambassadors were honored in a ceremony held on Thursday, April 28 at the Governor’s Mansion Complex. This year, 46 individuals – one from each county – were selected.

More than 50 complete 2014 South Carolina Economic Development Institute

COLUMBIA, S.C. – On Friday, November 14, more than 50 local leaders and development professionals from across South Carolina completed the 2014 South Carolina Economic Development Institute.  Institute attendees received their Certificates of Completion during the final day of the 2014 Institute held at the City of Greer Events Complex.

Small business lender matchmaker event scheduled for October 22nd

COLUMBIA, S.C. - The South Carolina Department of Commerce, along with several partner organizations, will be hosting a small business lender matchmaker event on Wednesday, October 22, 2014 from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in Columbia, S.C.

The workshop is aimed at assisting small business owners with financing strategies as well as providing opportunities to connect with potential lenders. Small business owners will also learn from finance professionals on how to improve their business strategies and prepare for funding challenges.

South Carolina export sales top $30 billion in 2015, achieve sixth consecutive record year

COLUMBIA, S.C. –For the sixth consecutive year, the State of South Carolina has set a record for total export sales. Today, Gov. Nikki Haley, the South Carolina Department of Commerce and the South Carolina Ports Authority announced that the State’s 2015 export sales totaled $30.9 billion, according to data from the U.S. Department of Commerce. The figure represents a more than four percent increase over the 2014 total.

Department of Commerce launches new S.C. Innovation Hub

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The South Carolina Department of Commerce Office of Innovation today announced the S.C. Innovation Hub – an online tool for the state’s innovation community. Supplying individuals and businesses within the technology sector a platform to access resources and connect with one another, this new site allows registered users to post news stories, events and other information.
