Department of Commerce honors 2016 Ambassadors for Economic Development

COLUMBIA, S.C. – As part of the 25th Annual Industry Appreciation Week, the South Carolina Department of Commerce last week announced the 2016 Ambassadors for Economic Development. Recognized for their exceptional efforts to bolster community and economic development activities in South Carolina, the ambassadors were honored in a ceremony held on Thursday, April 28 at the Governor’s Mansion Complex. This year, 46 individuals – one from each county – were selected.

Small business lender matchmaker event scheduled for October 22nd

COLUMBIA, S.C. - The South Carolina Department of Commerce, along with several partner organizations, will be hosting a small business lender matchmaker event on Wednesday, October 22, 2014 from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in Columbia, S.C.

The workshop is aimed at assisting small business owners with financing strategies as well as providing opportunities to connect with potential lenders. Small business owners will also learn from finance professionals on how to improve their business strategies and prepare for funding challenges.

South Carolina export sales top $30 billion in 2015, achieve sixth consecutive record year

COLUMBIA, S.C. –For the sixth consecutive year, the State of South Carolina has set a record for total export sales. Today, Gov. Nikki Haley, the South Carolina Department of Commerce and the South Carolina Ports Authority announced that the State’s 2015 export sales totaled $30.9 billion, according to data from the U.S. Department of Commerce. The figure represents a more than four percent increase over the 2014 total.

S.C. Department of Commerce announces Deputy Director of Workforce Development

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The South Carolina Department of Commerce today announced that Elisabeth M. Kovacs has been promoted to Deputy Director of Workforce Development. Kovacs will be responsible for day-to-day activities regarding the state’s new Coordinating Council for Workforce Development – an initiative which was created by legislation passed earlier this year. Additionally, Kovacs will continue to manage the state’s Regional Education Centers and 12 Regional Workforce Advisors.
