S.C. Department of Commerce launches new Landing Pad program
COLUMBIA, S.C. – The South Carolina Department of Commerce today announced the official launch of its new Landing Pad program. A collaborative effort with the state’s regional economic development alliances, the Landing Pad program aims to assist established companies from around the world who are looking to enter either the U.S. or South Carolina markets for the first time.
S.C. Department of Commerce announces Deputy Director of Workforce Development
COLUMBIA, S.C. – The South Carolina Department of Commerce today announced that Elisabeth M. Kovacs has been promoted to Deputy Director of Workforce Development. Kovacs will be responsible for day-to-day activities regarding the state’s new Coordinating Council for Workforce Development – an initiative which was created by legislation passed earlier this year. Additionally, Kovacs will continue to manage the state’s Regional Education Centers and 12 Regional Workforce Advisors.

More than 50 complete 2016 South Carolina Economic Development Institute
COLUMBIA, S.C. – More than 50 local leaders and economic development professionals from across South Carolina have completed the 2016 South Carolina Economic Development Institute (Institute). Institute attendees received Certificates of Completion during the final day of the 2016 Institute held on Friday, November 11 at Hickory Knob State Park in McCormick County.
Grants awarded to improve 11 South Carolina communities
COLUMBIA, S.C. – Eleven communities from across South Carolina are slated to benefit from public improvement projects supported by more than $4.3 million in funds from the latest round of the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program. The S.C. Department of Commerce is awarding CDBG funds to these communities, representing more than 26,600 residents, for the following projects:

SC Department of Commerce awarded grant to support export assistance programs
COLUMBIA, SC – The South Carolina Department of Commerce has been awarded a State Trade Expansion Program (STEP) grant from the US Small Business Administration (SBA) for the fifth year. In total, the SBA is awarding $18.8 million to 44 states in this year’s round of STEP grants, which are designed to support and encourage small business export success. South Carolina was awarded its full requested amount of $333,364.
