Awards at Rural Summit recognize leaders making an impact in rural South Carolina

COLUMBIA, S.C. - The South Carolina Department of Commerce gathered leaders from across the state on Monday for the 24th annual South Carolina Rural Summit and challenged attendees to make a difference in their communities.  

This year's Rural Summit was held at the Opera House in Sumter, S.C., where rural community leaders, economic developers and state officials shared ideas, experiences and practical knowledge to improve rural South Carolina.

South Carolina exporters post record: $26.1 billion in products sold to 202 countries

South Carolina ranked No. 1 for jobs linked to foreign investment

COLUMBIA, S.C. – For the third time in the last four years, IBM-Plant Location International (IBM-PLI) has ranked South Carolina first per million inhabitants in attracting jobs through foreign investment. In this year’s report, the Palmetto State is ranked above Tennessee and Kentucky, which are second and third, respectively.

Small business lender matchmaker event scheduled for September 24

COLUMBIA, S.C. – In a true collaboration between municipal, state and federal government, the South Carolina Department of Commerce, along with several partner organizations, will be hosting a small business lender matchmaker event on Thursday, September 24, 2015 from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in Columbia, S.C. Partners of the event include the City of Columbia’s Office of Business Opportunities and the U.S. Small Business Administration.

City of Greenville Community Development Administrator completes South Carolina Economic Development Institute

COLUMBIA, S.C. – On Friday, August 14, City of Greenville Community Development Administrator Ginny Stroud completed the South Carolina Economic Development Institute (Institute).  Stroud received her Certificate of Completion at the conclusion of August’s industrial development session held at the Clemson University Conference Center in Pickens County.

S.C. Department of Commerce announces new Marketing and Communications Director

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The South Carolina Department of Commerce today announced that Adrienne R. Fairwell has joined the agency as marketing and communications director. Fairwell will lead the Department’s strategic marketing and communications initiatives and serve as the agency’s spokeswoman.

Giti Tire plant construction subcontractor outreach event scheduled

Grants awarded to improve 34 South Carolina communities

COLUMBIA, S.C. - More than 30 communities across the state are slated to benefit from public improvement projects supported by nearly $16.3 million in funds from the latest round of the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program. Three complete South Carolina Economic Development Institute in May

COLUMBIA, S.C. – On Friday, May 15, three local leaders completed the South Carolina Economic Development Institute.  Newberry County Councilman Scott Cain, Jasper County Councilman Marty Sauls and Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College President Dr. Walt Tobin received their Certificates of Completion at the conclusion of May’s community development session held at the Central Carolina Technical College Health Sciences Center in Sumter County.
