S.C. Commerce announces 2023 Relentless Challenge grant awards

The South Carolina Department of Commerce (S.C. Commerce) today announced its 2023 Relentless Challenge grant recipients, which totaled more than $750,000 granted to 15 organizations around the state.

Relentless Challenge grant recipients support projects designed to enhance the state’s innovation ecosystem – specifically in the areas of high growth entrepreneurship, talent development, access to risk capital, and industry and higher education partnerships that may lead to commercialization of innovative products.

South Carolina releases record-breaking industry recruitment in 2022

The South Carolina Department of Commerce today released its 2022 industry recruitment results which reflect historic economic activity. From January to December 2022, the state announced total capital investment of $10.27 billion, the single largest year in state history. That investment represents 120 projects and the creation of 14,083 new jobs.

Grants awarded to improve 20 South Carolina communities

COLUMBIA, S.C. – Twenty communities from around South Carolina are receiving community development grant funds totaling more than $8.2 million for public improvement projects. The S.C. Department of Commerce (S.C. Commerce) awards the CDBG funds, which will benefit 86,904 residents and total $8,287,065.

State and community leaders graduate from South Carolina economic development training program

 The S.C. Department of Commerce (S.C. Commerce) and S.C. Economic Developers’ Association (SCEDA) today announced that 45 state and community leaders have graduated from a statewide economic development training program, S.C. Economic Development Institute (Institute).

S.C. Commerce awarded grant to support export assistance programs

The South Carolina Department of Commerce (S.C. Commerce) has been awarded a State Trade Expansion Program (STEP) grant from the United States Small Business Administration (SBA) for the 10th consecutive year. The state received its full requested amount of $250,000 to support and encourage small business export success.

Develop Carolina fellowship earns federal apprenticeship designation

Develop Carolina, a software development fellowship spearheaded by the South Carolina Department of Commerce (S.C. Commerce), Build Carolina and Apprenticeship Carolina, today announced that the program is officially a registered apprenticeship with the United States Department of Labor.
